The Combination of Production, Teaching and Research: Haier Star Box

Haier Star Box was launched on December 11th, 2014. As the smart temperature controller of central air conditioning system, it can be connected to the Internet through Wi-Fi and adapt to the App in a special smart phone, thus controlling temperature in distance. Not only Haier products but also any other smart hardware, product and developer can be connected to Star Box. Haier Star Box is a breakthrough in air smart control, the first air smart controller in China and a paradigm of Haier’s open innovation idea.

The product concept of Haier Star Box was formed within the group in February, 2014.

R&D was started by the air conditioner R&D department-led team in November 2013. However, the innovation didn’t go smoothly for lacking of “self-learning algorithm”.

The R&D team released the need for this technology on HOPE and found 5 technical organizations, R&D teams and even efficient research offices within merely 7 days.

R&D cooperation was reached with a domestic university in May, 2014.

“Self-learning algorithm” was successfully developed and applied to new products after an analysis of Star Box’s appearance and other technical parameters.
