Qingdao, China--Recently, the building of Haier Global Innovation Model Research Center has a new impressive name--The Tip of the Iceberg, where the 1st International RenDanHeYi Model Forum will be held on September 20.
The name leverages characters of the iceberg, which is shaped by the force of nature and can be further expanded limitlessly, will gain or lose mass when temperature changes. It shares common features with Haier RenDanHeYi model, namely limitless resources, self-organization and gathering and dispersal of resources around a certain goal. Zhang Ruimin, Chairman of the board of directors and CEO of Haier Group, has written an inscription for the building as follows:
The tip of the iceberg covers 35,500 square kilometers in building area. It is a multifunctional research and academic center, integrating the expertise studio, business school, enterprise center and comprehensive exhibition hall. It is designed by world-famous architect Robert Greenwood, who has also directed the design of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina in Egypt, the National September 11 Memorial &Museum in the USA and the South Korea Busan Opera. The Oslo Opera House under his direction won the 2009 Mies van der Rohe Award, the highest European architectural award.
With congratulations on the completion, Mr. Greenwood excitingly said:“ the choice of name Tip of the Iceberg is very suitable and we will include this in publicizing the project with our representative works. I hope that this center will become a significant landmark both for Haier and for the city of Qingdao.”
